PRP Facials

Our skin can tell us a lot about the condition of our overall health, as it shows signs of toxicity, aging, sun damage, and unhealthy lifestyle. When we assess the skin, we need to consider all aspects that may be contributing to the outside appearance that we notice. It is important to identify underlying imbalances in nutrition and hormones, as they will continue to cause issues if they go unaddressed. Once we have the building blocks in place, we can look at treatments to improve the turnover of cells, that allows for new healthy skin to show. One of the most incredible treatments for achieving this is a PRP facial.

PRP (platelet rich plasma) Facials

There are many ways that we can support better skin health, and improve the overall appearance of our skin. Treatments range from superficial short term results, to more complex treatments that provide long term results. PRP (platelet rich plasma) facials fall into the second category. As we age, free radical damage accumulates and leads to skin dullness, redness or dark spots, sensitivity and redness, and loss of tension. PRP is an amazing option to preserve the body’s natural ability to regenerate and restore healthy skin cells, improving the appearance of the skin for both immediate as well as long term results.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is derived from your own blood. Before a treatment, a sample of blood is taken, that is then spun down using a centrifuge to concentrate the therapeutic substance. This concentrated PRP is rich platelets, growth factors, and immune cells that stimulate the regeneration of targeted tissues.

PRP with Microneedling

One of my favorite ways to use PRP is in combination with a microneedling treatment. If you are starting to notice changes to your skin, and aren’t sure what treatment might be best for you, this is a great place to start. Both of these treatments work with the body’s own processes to stimulate collagen production and cell turnover to improve the quality of the skin over time. Results continue to take effect over an 8 week period. This is different than a typical facial which will often have you glowing right after, but then the effects fade quickly. These treatments are working to improve and preserve the quality of your skin, without adding in any foreign substances.

PRP can also be injected into different layers of the skin and structures below for a deeper effect. I love using this treatment in areas such as the undereye, as well as around the mouth. The under eyes are a concern for many people as the delicate skin here is susceptible to changes. Thin skin creates darkening under the eyes, hollowing happens with volume loss, and skin looks wrinkly as we lose collagen and elasticity. This also shows up around the mouth with fine superficial lines, and deeper set lines that make up the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and barcode lines. It is a really powerful tool at mitigating or slowing the natural process that the skin goes through as we age, to support healthy looking skin at every age.

PRP for Hair Loss

PRP treatments are also very helpful in hair loss for both men and women. Hair loss can be a complex issue that involves hormones, the immune system, and nutrition, but the localized treatment targets the hair follicles directly.

As naturopaths, we will always look to understand the full picture. We want to understand the reasons behind any skin concerns and work on all levels to optimize your aesthetic goals. We will help to identify any potential barriers impacting your skin health, including nutrition, stress, sleep, hormones, and inflammation levels. This will insure that you are getting the maximum benefit from the treatments you choose to support your skin.

The components in PRP can be instrumental in easing changes to skin that we typically see with aging. The number of treatments needed depends on the individual, taking into account their specific goals, age, and lifestyle factors. This is a wonderful treatment that really works with your body to have you looking your best for years to come. Don't hesitate to reach out to our team, to see if this might be the right treatment for you.
