Unlocking Radiant Skin: The Science and Benefits of Microneedling.

Are you looking for a natural way to preserve the health of your skin? Are you looking to achieve a youthful, glowing complexion without an invasive procedure or lengthy downtime? If so, this article is for you.

Naturopathic doctors recognize that the body has an innate capacity to heal itself. Microneedling utilizes the capacity to self-heal by delivering medically guided, small microtraumas to the skin. These microchannels in turn initiate a wound healing cascade, leading to collagen production and younger, more vital looking skin.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. At Clementine, we use the SkinPen device that is equipped with 14 precision medical grade needles. These sterile needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin’s surface. The micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing processes, leading to the production of collagen and elastin- the proteins responsible for maintaining the skin’s firmness, elasticity, and youthful appearance.

Microneedling therefore can help improve skin texture and elasticity. Microneedling can reduce pore size, helping achieve a healthier, more youthful-looking skin.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?

This depends on your treatment goals. We typically recommend 3-6 consecutive treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart.

How do I Prepare for my Microneedling Appointment?

Avoid any harsh skin treatments for the week prior to your appointment. This includes any vitamin C or retinol products. Arrive at Clementine with a clean face (no makeup, lotions, moisturizers etc.) and be ready to enjoy an hour of relaxation.

Before the procedure, your ND will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area to ensure you are comfortable throughout the duration of the treatment.

What is the Recovery Process Like?

After the procedure, your skin will appear slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. This usually subsides within 1-3 days. We ask that you avoid the sun for the 3 days following your treatment.

You should notice continual improvement over the following days, weeks and months. Collagen production will be the key player to thank for your improved skin texture, tone and overall appearance.

In conclusion, microneedling is a non-invasive, effective and natural cosmetic procedure. If you’re considering microneedling, please talk to one of our licensed naturopathic doctors to discuss your unique needs and determine if this treatment is right for you.
